about higher educational establishments and study in the Czech Republic

          Higher education in the Czech Republic has a prestigious admission. The Czech Republic has rather extensive network, both state and private, of higher educational institutions. The diplomas about a higher education issued by high schools of the Czech Republic are recognized by EU countries and other countries.

          Knowledges obtained at the faculties of Charles University in Prague are quoted especially highly.


General conditions of entrance
to the higher schools of the Czech Republic
(Examinations, terms, conditions of training and cost)

  • In higher schools of the Czech Republic can be trained the students practically from all the countries irrespective of a nationality, social status or confession.

  • Entrance examinations and training in many higher schools of the Czech Republic can be prosecuted in Czech and in world languages (English, German, French).

  • Terms of training are different: from 4 up to 6 years, depends on the program of the high school, selected speciality and training level of the student.

  • Entrance examinations, for example in Charles University, the intrants can take examinations in Czech and English languages

  • Education is charge-free (basically in state high schools) and (in private schools).

  • The students, depending on their marches, have the right to the grant, which for example in Charles University in Prague makes about 3 500 CZK (or USD 100).


Preparatory courses
(Conditions, terms of training, cost)

  • Preparatory courses, for example at Charles University, are going on for 1 year.

  • The preparatory courses are carried out in the towns of Dobrushka, Marianske Lazne, Podebrady, Teplice, Czeska Lipa and other.

  • So, for example, the six-month Czech language and history course in the town of Dobrushka costs of 2 600 CZK (or USD 68,5) per one month and 1 600 CZK (or USD 42,1) per one month,including accommodation.

  • As a rule, there are:
  1. One-year course (i.e.10 months) of the Czech language and professional training for future study at universities.

    Term: September - June. Full cost of courses (30 - 35 hours per week, including study materials) make USD 3 520 (Czech language and professionally technical subjects);

  2. One-year course (i.e.10 months) of the Czech language.

    Term: September - June. Full cost (25 hours per week, including study materials) make USD 2 700 (the Czech language and history);

  3. Semester course of the Czech language.
    Term:
    - from September 10,2001 to January 18, 2002;
    - from February 4, 2001 to June 7, 2002.

    Full cost (25 hours per week, including study materials) makes USD 1 380;

  4. Six-week courses of the Czech language.

    Term: according to the requirements and number of students. Full cost (25 hours per week, including basic materials) make USD 430 These courses are designed for foreigners, who wish to acquire basic communication skills. For students who have studied the Czech language to some extent before, the courses could be adapted to the level of their knowledge, needs and requirements;

  5. Individual courses.

    The cost is USD 16 per lessons (45 minutes), including basic materials. In the case of two persones the price is USD 19 per lessons, in the case of three persons the price is USD 21 per lesson.


Visa formalities
(Condition of obtaining a visa, terms and cost)

  • For Ukrainian intrant is necessary to obtain visa for study.

  • Such visa is possible to obtain (extremely) outside the Czech Republic in Consulate of Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine (or in other country, with which the Czech Republic has diplomatic relations.

  • Visa for study is given by Consular offices on the base of a document certifying the acceptance into a study program in the Czech Republic issued by a Czech university or school.

  • As a rule, visa is issued for the whole period of study, however it is necessary to prolong it annually.

  • There is not visa fee for children under 15 years of age. For the rest the cost of the visa is determined by Consular offices and costs approximately 1000 CZK(USD 26,3).

The following documents must submit:

  • Document confirming the acceptance to the university or school of the Czech Republic.

  • Document confirming sufficient financial resources for the period of study (a bank account statement from a bank in the Czech Republic with the minimum amount 110 000 CZK, or credit card).

  • Document issued by a Czech university or school confirming accommodation for the time of studies or the original statement of the owner of an apartment stating his/her ability and willingness to provide an accommodation for the time of stay (signature must be notarized by a Czech notary) and the lease contract.

  • The Criminal History Record from Ukraine (translated into the Czech language and notarized).

  • The application for the Criminal History Record issued by the Police in the Czech Republic. The form is available upon request at the Czech Embassy in Ukraine.

  • Original passport.

  • Insurance policy for time of study (or for 1 year).

  • Three passport size photographs.

  • Filled out and signed questionnaire on the visa for study purpose at the school or university of the Czech Republic (issued by Consular department of Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine).


Accommodation (conditions and cost)

  • The students of higher schools of the Czech Republic can be provided with the living accommodations. As a rule, foreign students live in student hostels on the common basis (i.e. on identical conditions with the Czech students).

  • Living conditions: 2-3 students in a room.

  • The pricing of accommodation in a student hostel (for example of Charles University in Prague) is 600-950 CZK (or USD 15,7-25 ) per month. However, this cost is possible only under condition ofstudy at the university in Czech language. In case the student is trained in other world language, accommodation cost is set within200-250 CZK (or USD 5,2-6,5 ) per day.

  • In case of absence of a hostel, the accommodation is possible and in a private sector. The cost of accommodation for one student, for example in private flat in Prague is 1 500 - 3 500 CZK (or USD 40-90) per month.

Food
  • Dinner or supper in a student restaurant (Prague ) costs about 50 CZK (or USD 1,3 ).

  • Dinner or suppert at a student restaurants in other cities of the Czech Republic will cost more cheaply.


Insurance

  • Medical insurance in the Czech Republic is obligatory for the citizens, including the foreigners.

  • The foreign student can sign the medical insurances contract in the country of the constant residence.

  • In case of absence of the contract foreign student is obliged to sign the contract of medical insurance with a local insurer in the Czech Republic.

  • The contract, for example, with VZP of he Czech Republic and the cost of insurance policy, will make 1 100 CZK (or USD 29 ) per month.
