The travel industry in Ukraine has old historical traditions. After procurement of independence by Ukraine (in 1991), tourism and specially it private sector begun to develop rapidly.
The numerous
travel agencies, which have arisen
last decade in Ukraine, by virtue of professional capabilities, tender,
especially to the foreign clients, practically full list of services.
During
2000 11,2 million visits of Ukraine by the foreigners were registered
(that is 5,6 per cent more than in past year). Among them 4,4 million
tourist trips (4,1 per cent growth) and 6,8 million one-day trips
(6,2 per cent growth). According to the scheme of calculations advised
by WTO, the foreign visitors have kept 2,2 billion USD during the stay
in Ukraine in 2000.
Tourism
and business, bounded with it), such as travel and, relatively,
hotel and restaurant business, transportation services and tourist
exhibitions etc., are widly developed in Ukraine.
During 2000
tourist agencies, hotels and
sanatoria of Ukraine, total 5744 units, have realised of
own services 2,28 billion HUA, that makes 1,32 per cent of the
gross domestic product (GDP) of Ukraine and 3,3 per cent under the
article "effecting of services". The gowth of total volume of
implementation in comrerison with the previous year has compounded 17,1
per cent. In the structure of the balance of payments of Ukraine in 2000
exports of services under the article "Travel" makes 10
per cent, imports - 15 per cent. For the last five years quantity of
visits in Ukraine by the foreigners increased 2,2 times, and
quantity of the foreign tourists in this number has rose by 19 per
cent. For the same period in balance of payments of Ukraine the lobe
of exports of services under the article "Travel" has grown from 7 per
cent up to 10 per cent.
